THERAPY, COACHING

Martin Conway

Psychology MSc,

DipHIC, MBACP

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2013, having been admitted to hospital a number of times before this diagnosis finally came. At the time I was working a stressful job in the Middle-East and coping mechanisms for that stress included junk food and smoking, that all played a part in my condition flaring-up. But stress and containment and detachment from my emotions seem to have been the primary causes.

The condition brought with it the need for dramatic changes to my lifestyle. However, these changes were slow to come and it was largely due to the therapy and coaching I have had over the years that I learnt an acceptance of my condition. This acceptance was the first real step in moving forward towards making positive changes.

These experiences led me to embark on a career in coaching and counselling. I have worked as a coach for 8 years, and as a therapist for the last 6 years, having previously worked as a Psychologist and a Teacher.

I wrote my dissertation on the link between my Crohn’s Disease and my underlying mental processes.

I have now honed my experiences of working with clients with long-term illnesses and channelled them into treatments of counselling and coaching specifically for Crohn’s Disease and Colitis.

I am delighted to be able to share this expertise with clients, delivering the treatment that I wish I had received myself.
